True stories: Apparently when my oldest sister was an infant my grandmother was burping her. My mother told my grandmother, who had raised 5 children, that she was doing it wrong because 'the book' said to do it another way. My grandmother, in her Italian / English, told my mother to "go to hxxl. You and the book." Fast forward several years. Apparently my parents had read the original Dr. Spock book. My father said that the best use he got out of the book was when he threw it at my oldest sister!

Why did he throw it at your sister? My mom has thrown socks at us. She gets perturbed when the matches go missing but it's not my fault that the dryer eats socks.

I only worry about matching my own socks. The boy rarely wears matched socks so I'm not going to bother. And that's why I do my own laundry.

There are a lot of feet in my family so mother tends to buy all white or black socks and all the same kind so every sock matches every other. We do have our own socks that aren't white but not many and usually a color that we've been assigned.

There are for real a lot of feet in your family. My mom will ask us which one of you only has one leg or a leg without a foot. What really irritates her is we have a bag thing that we are supposed to keep our socks and underwear stuff in when we send down the laundry to get washed but we are not always very good with that. Mine is lost again but I'm pretty sure I give it to Andre to play with when he was needing a net so maybe he took it home.

Try again Roseanna Elizabeth. Your mesh laundry bag is folded and sitting on the chair in the laundry room. It gets a little frustrating to wash the same empty laundry bag over and over again while my army of single socks grows.

I still don't understand why you don't let the kids don't do their own laundry.....

I still don't understand why you don't let the kids don't do their own laundry..... Her girls are very capable of doing their own laundry but our mother trained Kim well. Kim used to do all our laundry when we were growing up. It was her job as the eldest daughter. I think laundry simply became a habit for her. I also have it on good authority that it gives her an excuse for some alone time.

Catherine you stop that! Mom helped with the laundry and it gave us some mom/daughter time away from you little turds.
I don't know why I wouldn't do laundry for my family? I have to do at least one load a day for towels and washcloths so why not a load of clothes too? It's not like it's a hard job. You put clothes into the washer and then into the dryer and then fold those sweet smelling warm clothes. It's probably the easiest part of my day. It does provide me with some quiet alone time too. I generally take a little time to read when the clothes are drying. When I'm in the laundry room and someone needs something, they go to Rob for fear I might put them to work.
They all have their chores to do and they do know how to do laundry (they'll do it when asked) so I can see no real reason for me to make them do their own laundry. I don't need five humans competing for washer time.

I wasn't old enough to remember/know but apparently she was misbehaving and he was annoyed with her. He could have poked her eye out. That's why my parents say about everything. Put down that straw or you'll poke out your sister's eye.Keep doing that and you're going to lose an eye and I'm not going to feel sorry for you. My dad likes to tell me Your face is going to freeze that way.
