You need a section called Cults.  My laugh for this morning. At my door I had 2 JW's who wanted to give me some literature and discuss JW with me. I gently explained I'm a former and they couldn't get off my porch fast enough. It was like there was a fire under their feet. I loved it. |

JW's shun those who leave the faith. It's not like the Amish shunning but it's not all that different either. When I left, my parents and siblings were expected to cut all ties with me. The parent part never bothered me much but the sibling part is sometimes hard. I see one of my sisters on occasion and in secret. Chuck's situation is similar but his family has a formal kind of contact with him, funerals.

That's really sad that religion would make you turn away from your family.
