You should read about him. I'm not going to discuss him in this section because there's nothing Christian about his teachings. I will start a thread in a different section but he should have a category all his own:

Protestants seem to be more into spanking all the time while Catholics, including me, aren't against it but do think it should be more of a rarity. Protestant includes a lot of different types of religious beliefs. Fundamentalists are Protestant and they may be more punishing but that isn't true of all Protestants.

As all of you know, I converted to Catholicism as an adult so growing up, I heard a lot of Catholic jokes that still tickle me in how true they are in many ways and yet funny. It's good to be able to laugh at yourself so....
A man arrives at the gates of heaven. St. Peter asks,
"Religion?"
The man says, "Methodist."
St. Peter looks down his list, and says, "Go to room 24, but be very quiet as you pass room 8."
Another man arrives at the gates of heaven. "Religion?"
"Baptist."
"Go to room 18, but be very quiet as you pass room 8."
A third man arrives at the gates. "Religion?"
"Jewish." "Go to room 11, but be very quiet as you pass room 8."
The man says, "I can understand there being different rooms for different religions, but why must I be quiet when I pass room 8?"
St. Peter tells him, "Well the Catholics are in room 8, and they think they're the only ones here.
And yes they aren't the only ones who would think they're the only religion there but I still think the joke is funny.

As far as I know the methods were left up to my mom. I don't ever recall hearing a sermon or otherwise that directly discussed the topic of discipline. I'm glad it was handled that way. I can't imagine how I'd feel listening to the pastor talk about discipline in front of the whole congregation.

I think it is fine to post on old topics because they lock it up if they don't want anyone to post on it. I guess it would be embarrassing to have a pastor or minister talking about discipline. My mother was raised sort of Catholic because her mother was half Potawatoma and I think a lot of them are Catholic. That is what my grandmother on my dad's side said but she isn't always right and she is a Baptist. I guess I'm a nothing and if the preaching people are going to talk about discipline I will stay a nothing.

I'm Catholic and I've never once heard a sermon at Mass mention anything even close to spanking or much at all about how to raise children for that matter. I'm always kind of surprised when I hear about other religions 'preaching' about it during their services.
It's also kind of ironic in a way as I went to Catholic school back in the day and corporal punishment was definitely practiced!

Most fundamentalists preach spanking, that's a fact. Especially the IFB, which Addy belongs to I believe? Independent Fundamentalist Baptists. As well as the IBLP which Charity's family belongs to. Most Evangelical Christians believe in spanking, and some non evangelicals do as well.

My grandma's church is different from Addy's and mostly I think it gets called a Bible Baptist church.
