There's a railroad overpass bridge in Durham, North Carolina that is the stuff of legend. It was built in the 1940s with a clearance height of 11 feet, 8 inches (that's 3.556 meters for those of you who speak metric) which at the time was plenty high. Now, not so much.
In 2016 sensors and signage were installed that alert truck drivers to turn and the sensors trip a traffic light to allow drivers extra time to practice their reading skills (there is a huge "OVERHEIGHT MUST TURN" LED sign that lights up right between the traffic lights).
In 2019 the railroad bridge was raised by 8 inches to 12 feet 4 inches (3.76 m). The bridge cannot be raised any higher and the road cannot be lowered because of sewage lines running under the street.
In 2009 a Youtuber set up cameras and a channel to record the crashes. As of March 2024 there are 180 crash videos.
This one's a beauty:

Maybe they should make those bridges taller.

Maybe they should make those bridges taller. If they were building it today, they would.

Will he get in trouble when it is not really high enough cause that don't seem exactly fair.

Will he get in trouble when it is not really high enough cause that don't seem exactly fair. I mean, he had options! You can go around. It's not terribly convenient, but there are some who get the message.

My dad says whenever there's an overpass the driver of the truck is supposed to stop and get out and check to make sure there's enough headroom and if they don't they'll get fired immediately. I worry about that sometimes because of road rage. What if he does that and then someone gets mad and goes around him but hits on purpose or by accident? It's a crazy rule.
