There are bass players, there are bass players who sing, and then there are bass players who can sing what they play. Slam Stewart had the uncanny ability to play technically complex bass solos using his bow "arco" while simultaneously humming or singing the same notes an octave higher. And he lived a good deal of his life in Binghamton, where he taught at SUNY!
This is his 1940s hit "Flat Foot Floogie" which he co-wrote with Slim Gaillard (another out of this world musician):
