Should kids be forced to go to church with their parents?

Would this be better phrased as: Should kids do what their parents require them to do?

Just answer the question. It’s not rhetorical?

OK, but some context please. How old are the kids..5, 12, 17? Do the parents go to church? Are there specific reasons that the parents require them to be at church? Are there specific reasons the kids object to going?

This might surprise you Addy but yes, I do think it's perfectly fine for parents to insist their minor children go to church WITH them.

I think parents should be allowed to because it's up to them to take care of our souls.

At the risk of infuriating my fellow parents, no.
At least not once the kids are teens. At that point if they've been going all their lives and don't want to go that should be their decision. You can't force religion on someone and have them want to continue it later on. Introduce them to it, and then let them make their own mind up.

I'm not sure you're going to infuriate anyone. I don't force my children to go to church because I don't go to church and because their dad is agnostic so you won't find him in a church. If I had a strong belief system and attended church, I would expect my kids to go with me. As mom, I do have a right to pick and choose what values will be important in my home. We make a lot of choices for our children, little ones like what kind of toothpaste they'll use to bigger ones like what school they'll attend, church is no different than that.

If God and faith are an integral part of your family then a parent has every right to insist that their child go to church. It's not so easy for someone who doesn't believe to understand why a parent with faith insists their child go to church with them. When I had mine baptised I made a promise to God and my church that I would raise my children in the faith and part of that promise is to educate them in the faith and to make them part of the community. One way I educate them in the faith is by sending them to Catholic school and how they have Christian fellowship is through church. When my children move out of my home it will fall on them to figure out how they will express what they believe but while they are in my home and in my care, they will accompany me and their father to church because that is how we express our faith as a family.

Are there specific reasons the kids object to going? Old enough to know what they think about God and the world around my age. Should it matter if the parents go to church? What if the kid just believes differently?

This part for me was key. I made that same promise. And if I was not going to keep that promise, what was the point of having them baptized?
