Here it starts again. Journaling for my Religion class. Pastor makes it so hard sometimes cause for one thing he is a boy and so me being a girl don't want for him to see everything that is girl private thoughts you know. I don't know. So this week the topic is what do I got to confess to God. Can I just say to him that it is not none of his business. To God. If I have to write about it then it means I got to confess it to him and God and it is not his business. I don't know. I know I can't say to him it is none of his business cause that will get me in trouble and even with my dad who don't confess nothing to God since he isn't even believing for sure that there is a God. I guess I will have to make up something to confess and then I will have to confess that I lied. Grrrr

Just pick a generic little something. We all sass our parents from time to time so use something like that.

Rosie, That really does sound like an intrusive, inappropriate topic. What you confess is supposed to be completely private between you and God with the priest just acting as an intermediary. What is the actual prompt you were given?
Maybe just say things generically. For example, 'I have to confess any sins such as lying, stealing, cheating....' Not giving any specific instances of sin.

She isn't in a Catholic school so I don't understand this confessing something in a journal. I believe confession is unique to the Catholic church. I would go generic.

Better yet, confess a positive. Confess something like, I have to confess to God that I gave the lunch my mom fixed me to someone who was hungry.

I totally do not get this whole confession thing. Livy is taking classes to make a confession and to get communion.
FWIW: I almost posted Libby instead of Livy. I wonder if that means I don't rock but have rocks in my head?

Or, write your confession in your journal and then turn in a redacted copy with all the details blacked out.

I'd like to redact things when I get forced to go to confession. It's called Reconciliation and not confession.

Just write that you broke all the commandments except for one and watch him try to figure out which one.

I don't know why I got to do this but I have to journal on that for a whole entire week and then turn it in to him on Friday. I'm supposed to write something every day so this is not going to be fun at all.

It sounds quite intrusive; one has to have personal private thoughts. Religion is also a personal concept. There was a famous 17th century French philosopher, by the name of Blaze Pasquel. He could not find any good rationale for any of the religions to exist, He concluded, that everyone should believe in God, as such a stance would be a no lose situation. Should God exist, your belief secured entry to the afterlife; on the other hand, if God didn't exist, you had nothing to lose. Quite a profound theory.

I was going to add! When Voltaire died, the priest visited his death bed and asked Voltaire to renounce the Devil. Voltaire replied, `Not a good time to be making new enemies'.

Ah, good old Pascal's wager!
And then there's Bertrand Russell's teapot analogy.

My journaling today is to explain why sharing my confession is a stupid thing to do. Maybe God was looking the other way and missed something I did and so why would I bring it to his attention unless it was something good. Now Miss Roseanna, I made your journal entry for today.
